The siege of Fort Alamo (February 23 - March 6, 1836) was a major event of the Texas Revolution. After a 13-day siege, Mexican troops commanded by General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an assault on the Alamo mission near San Antonio de Bexar (now San Antonio in the United States). All the Texas defenders were killed and the apparent cruelty of Santa Anna during the battle drove many American settlers and adventurers to join the Texas army. Driven by the desire to take revenge, the Texans defeated the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto April 21, 1836 which ended the Revolution.
