The Springfield Trapdoor Carbine is the cavalry model with a 22" barrel. It is equipped with an adjustable front sight and a fixed front sight.
- Loading by the breech by hinged door.
- External hammer, folding rear sight, 1 steel band.
- Barrel with 3 stripes at a pitch of 1:22'' or 560 mm.

The original 45/70 caliber is a 45-caliber bullet fired by a charge of 70 grains of black powder.
