Black powder rifled .577 caliber rifle. Originally, the Pattern 1853 barrel was simply shortened, but after a few years it was replaced by the Pattern 1858 model intended for the navy. The barrel is only retained by two steel bands. All other fittings are brass. The end of the rod is an exceptional element with its orifice.
