Black powder revolver 1860 Army Fluted 8'' - Cal 44

Between 1860 and 1873, Samuel Colt designed the Colt 1860 Army, also known as the New Model Holster Pistol, in .44 caliber. It is a single-action revolver loading through the barrel, ignited by percussion capsules. Manufactured in 200,500 copies, this instrument was created in the Samuel Colt factory in Hartford, Connecticut.

The loading process of this capsule revolver, commonly called cap & ball, is carried out from the front of the barrel in a methodical manner. It begins with the introduction of powder followed by a wad aimed at filling the space between the powder and the bullet. The bullet is then positioned so as to be flush with the edge of the barrel using the force lever. This sequence is repeated for each chamber of the barrel.

At the conclusion of the loading process, a grease filler is applied to the cavities around the bullets. This step aims to prevent humidity in the event of prolonged storage and to minimize the risks linked to the propagation of the flame from one chamber to another when the bullets are not oriented towards the barrel. Finally, the capsules are delicately placed on the chimneys located at the rear of the barrel, in relation to the corresponding chambers, thus completing the preparation of the revolver for secure and optimal use.
